The buildings of Museumhuizen Focus are open a few times a month. Here you won’t see a completely furnished building, but smaller exhibitions focusing on a specific point of interest within the house.
Ornate plasterwork, gilt leather, gilded woodwork and large fireplaces reflect the atmosphere in Monnickendam’s old town hall. The great hall with gold leather wallpaper and floral ornaments makes a striking impression, and the large magnificent staircase is absolutely an eye-catcher. When you enter this building, it’s hard to believe you are not in one of the Amsterdam Grand Canal houses.
The golden floral wallpaper, covered with intertwined branches, leaves and flowers is absolutely breath taking. You rarely see an all-over design so that not one place is emphasized over the rest of the room. The golden leather strips all link together from floor to ceiling. It is almost certain that this was produced by the wallpaper factory, Nicolaas Blanker.
Huis Timmerman is is closed in line with the government measures to reduce the spread of the coronavirus.
