Come and see Rams Woerthe yourself, renowned as being the Downton Abbey of Overijssel. This mansion was built for the wealthy Tromp Meester family and was one of the architect’s most expensive houses ever built. Take a look at the flamboyant art nouveau wrought-iron features, the colourful stained glass windows and the extensive servants’ quarters.
We would love to tell you more about the architecture, interior design, furnishings and the family who lived there. Come and visit, the doors are open!
The huge stained glass window is one of the Art Nouveau jewels of the Villa Rams Woerthe. Since the middle ages, churches had used stained glass, but this was an innovation for houses built at the end of the 19th century. In the stunning eye-catching centrepiece of Adolf le Comte’s window there are two girls with swans. It is a perfect illustration of nature; many animals surround them; carp, swallows and butterflies to name a few.
